Mati forms the foundation of all creation.
Here at IDC, we are deeply rooted in research.
Māti means soil; something we often overlook, but something everything depends on. It holds context, history, and the conditions that shape what can grow. In the same way, our work begins by engaging with real people, real environments, and real needs.
At IDC, we are encouraged to spend time with the problem before trying to solve it. To observe, to ask questions, and to make sense of what already exists. This process isn’t always visible, but it forms the base of everything that follows. Māti brings that foundation into focus. The projects are not just outcomes, but results of research, conversations, and careful attention to context. This exhibition is about work that is built from the ground up, and shaped by purpose.
